In Jamaica, a New Look at Treasure Beach’s Potential

Treasure Beach

Best known as the home to the Jakes Resort, the Jamaican destination of Treasure Beach is getting new attention from the country’s tourism officials.

Jamaica Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett says Treasure Beach is a unique destination offering “rustic experience where the link with nature is never broken, but the quality is still at the highest level.”

He said Jamaica’s southern coast was a “treasure to be honed and established as a global brand.”

Jamaica is also considering upgrading the Lionel Densham Aerodrome in St Elizabeth to help accommodate visitors looking to travel to the area by air.

The government just established a $158,000 loan facility for the operators of small resorts and attractions in Treasure Beach, located on the island’s southern coast.

The loan facility, which is initially being implemented as a pilot project, will help carry out upgrades “consistent with industry standards.”
