Dominican Republic Leading Caribbean Hotel Pipeline

The Dominican Republic currently leads the Caribbean hotel construction pipeline, according to a new construction pipeline report from STR.

The Dominican Republic has 1,208 rooms across six hotels in construction right now, more than any other country in the wider region except Mexico, which has 7,981 rooms and 58 hotels in construction.

Overall, there are 28,368 rooms in 178 projects under contract in the wider Caribbean-Mexico region, down 5.8 percent compared to May 2015.

It does represent a 3 percent increase in rooms in construction, however, according to the report.

Overall, the region reported 12,616 rooms in 80 projects in construction for the month of May.
