There’s a new flight from Europe to the Bahamas.

A new Italian charter made its inaugural flight from Milan, Italy to Freeport, Grand Bahama this week.

The service on Alpitour will be operating on a Boeing 767-300ER, providing direct service to the island from now through Sept. 1, 2016, officials said.

The inaugural flight brought 80 passengers from Italy to the Bahamas, welcomed by officials from the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and industry partners.

The flight is welcomed by Bahamian officials this week.

Betty Bethel, director of the Ministry of Tourism in Freeport, led the welcome delegation.

In a bid to boost regional arrivals, more and more Caribbean islands are looking to draw more tourists from the European market.

That’s led to new flights from a host of European destinations, from Air Europea’s new service from Spain to Puerto Rico to Condor’s ramped-up flights to the Caribbean from Germany, with the latter among the fastest-growing markets for the region.
