RIU Opens New Caribbean Hotel

By Alexander Britell

One of the Caribbean’s biggest all-inclusive companies has gotten even bigger.

Spanish hotel giant RIU has debuted another new all-inclusive in the region.

This time, it’s the Riu Republica, which has officially opened last weekend in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic’s tourism hub.

The five-star all-inclusive overlooks Arena Gorda Beach in greater Punta Cana; it’s the product of a $140 million investment by the company.

In another first for the company, the Republic is an adults-only, the first time Riu has given that designation to a hotel beyond its Riu Palace-branded portfolio.

The massive 1,007-room property has three pools with solarium terraces, a Renova Spa wellness center and four restaurants, including one buffet and three a la carte eateries.

Other amenities include a nightclub called “Pacha,” a swim-up bar, free sun loungers, towels and umbrellas by the pool, a sun terrace and five bars in total.

The hotel becomes the sixth hotel for the company in Punta Cana, joining the Riu Bambu, Riu Naiboa, Riu Palace Macao, Riu Palace Punta Cana and the Riu Palace Bavaro.
