American is expanding to St Maarten in a significant way.

After signs of a rebound, American Airlines Group saw another sluggish month in Latin America and the Caribbean in May.

According to the company’s latest numbers, the aviation giant saw a 3.3 percent decline in revenue passenger miles in May in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a total of 2.41 billion. That followed a number of 2.496 billion in May 2015.

For the year, the carrier’s revenue passenger miles in the region have slid 1.5 percent, with a total of 12.9 billion for the year to date.

That 1.5 percent decline is the biggest of any of the company’s markets.

American has been seeing increased competition in the region from carriers like JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines.
