St Lucia Sets Date for General Election

St Lucia will soon be choosing its next government.

The Eastern Caribbean country will be heading to the polls on June 6, St Lucia Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony announced in a national address.

The island’s Nomination Day will be May 27.

The election comes a little less than five years after Anthony’s St Lucia Labour Party won the country’s November 2011 general election, ousting former Prime Minister Stephenson King and the island’s United Workers Party.

The UWP is now led by former Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet, who will lead the opposition party in the vote.
