Grenada Eyes More Tourists From Canada

Grenada is looking to boost its arrivals from Canada.

The country’s Grenada Tourism Authority sent a three-member delegation this week to Toronto to promote its tourism sector in Canada, led by CEO Rudy Grant.

“At the end of 2015, Canada moved from being our third largest source market to the fourth position, contributing 10% to our stayover market share,” said Samantha Thomas-Clyne, Research Officer at the GTA. “The 13% decline in stayover arrivals from Canada in 2015 when compared to 2014 was partly due to the reduction in nonstop flights from Toronto and the economic recession experienced there.”

The GTA said negotiations were continuing between the Grenada National Airlift Committee and the airline companies, with an eye toward increased airlift.

“Our sales calls have been very productive so far and our destination presentations have been well received. Travel agents are particularly interested in activities and accommodations in Grenada,” said Renée Goodwin, Marketing Executive at the GTA.

More than 10,000 Canadians visited Grenada last year.
