American Airlines Sees Slight Growth in Caribbean

American is expanding to St Maarten in a significant way.

After months of continued decline, American Airlines saw a slight increase in Latin American and Caribbean traffic in April, according to the carrier’s latest data.

The company reported 2.455 billion revenue passenger miles last month, up 0.6 percent compared to April 2015.

The carrier also saw a 0.1 percent increase in available seat miles in the region, with a 0.4-percentage-point lift in load factor, to 76 percent in April.

Overall, the company saw a 3.6 percent increase in RPM for international flights in April.

American has been facing increased competition in the Caribbean from carriers like JetBlue and Southwest Airlines.
