The Best Place to Watch Sunrise in St Croix

By Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon

Watching the sun rise over the Caribbean is a special experience. But it’s perhaps nowhere more special than at St. Croix’s Point Udall, the easternmost point of the United States.

About 10 miles from Christiansted, the point is named for former Secretary of the Interior, Stewart Udall, who would no doubt be pleased to see steady stream of people who come here to witness the morning spectacle.

It’s not unusual to see visitors to the coastal spot toasting the sunrise with a bring-your-own-mimosa as warm winds whip through their hair and the distant sssh of waves rushing to shore below provides the soundtrack.

Be sure to bring your camera and snap a selfie at the Millenium Monument, a sundial erected here to mark the turn of the century. Its position commemorates the azimuth of the sun on January 1, 2000.

And your good fortune to be here, any day of the year.
