How You Can Stay in a Beach Hut in Jamaica

It’s “one step removed from sleeping under the stars.”

That’s what Jamaican hotel Goldeneye says of its new “beach huts,” wooden beach bungalows right on the sand.

The huts are the brainchild of Goldeneye founder Chris Blackwell, who had previously built just two beach huts at the hotel, one for his mother and one for himself.

Now, the Oracabessa Bay hotel (about 20 minutes from Ocho Rios) has its own “hamlet” of beach huts, each of which is painted in a playful, Caribbean color, with interiors including king-sized beds, locally-made furniture and natural fabrics.

The “huts” have oversized windows, high ceilings and don’t have air conditioning, emphasizing ocean breezes.

Some even have outdoor showers, baths and gardens.

The huts will open for stays beginning in April.
