While American Airlines Group said it posted record February traffic and capacity in February, the carrier continued its decline in the wider Latin America and Caribbean region.
After a sluggish January in the region, the carrier reported a 2.2 percent reduction in revenue passenger miles to 2.454 billion, down from 2.51 billion in February 2015.
American Airlines did see a slight 0.8 percent increase in available seat miles to 3.31 billion.
The carrier’s Latin American-Caribbean decline continued as its overall international traffic rose by 3.2 percent in February to 4.6 billion.
American has been facing increasingly stiff competition from rapidly-expanding JetBlue in the Caribbean.
