dominican republic

The Caribbean has rebounded significantly from the downturn, but some Caribbean countries are showing more hotel development growth.

In fact, there are three Caribbean countries with more than 1,000 hotel rooms in the “under contract” stage, or under construction, according to the latest data from STR.

The region’s leader is the Dominican Republic, with 1,546 rooms in the hotel construction pipeline; The Bahamas was next, with 1,413 rooms in the hotel development pipeline, followed by Aruba, which has 1,021 rooms in the pipeline.

Overall, there are 188 hotels totaling 32,400 rooms under contract in the wider Caribbean-Mexico region, up 12.9 percent from the same period last year.
