Bahamas’ Island House is Booming

A booming boutique

By Alexander Britell

NASSAU — It’s a boutique property, off the beach, a kind of private hideaway in Nassau.

But the tiny Island House, which debuted last year on the far west of New Providence, is off to a blazing start.

The five-star property, which has 30 rooms along with a cinema, spa and signature Mahogany House restaurant, has reported occupancy around 90 percent, according to Joy Jibrilu, director general of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

“It’s a very zen type of experience,” Jibrilu told a press briefing at the CHTA Marketplace conference in Nassau on Friday.

The hotel also seems to have benefited from the troubled Baha Mar project, as many of that project’s planned high-end travelers have instaed changed their itineraries to the Island House.
