How This Caribbean Beach Just Became Even More Blue

The Great Bay Beach at St Thomas’ Ritz-Carlton resort has gotten bluer.

The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag designation for environmental and conservation efforts, the fifth year in a row that the beach has received the designation.

The beach is one of only two in St Thomas to receive a Blue Flag, which is managed by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education.

The Blue Flag covers water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety and services.

“The ladies and gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas are truly committed to achieving the high standards of quality and environmental excellence for our guests, and we’re honored to be recognized for the fifth year in a row,” said Bernd Kuhlen, general manager at The Ritz-Carlton, St Thomas. “Paired with the hotel’s striking setting and acclaimed amenities, our Blue Flag is a symbol that visitors have arrived at one of the most environmentally friendly beaches in the Caribbean.”

There are 4,000 Blue Flag sites around the world, with four in the US Virgin Islands.
