A Major Increase in Flights to Martinique

By the Caribbean Journal staff

It’s about to get a whole lot easier to fly to one Caribbean island.

As the Caribbean tourist season ramps into high gear, Martinique is readying for a significant boost in air traffic.

The French Caribbean department will see a 193 percent increase in available nonstop seats for the 2015-2016 peak travel season, led by a wave of new flights on European carrier Norwegian out of three US cities.

Norwegian will launch new nonstop flights to Martinique beginning Dec. 3 out of New York, Baltimore/Washington and Boston.

The New York flights will operate three times weekly (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays), while the Baltimore/Washington flights will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays and Boston flights twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The Norwegian flights are accompanied by American Airlines’ service out of Miami, which will increase to six weekly flights beginning Dec. 17.

“From New York to Boston, Baltimore/Washington DC and Miami, the gateways of America are now open to Martinique like never before,” said Muriel Wiltord, Director, Americas for the Martinique Promotion Bureau. “Convenience is the key as our new weekly total of 13 nonstop flights from the U.S. mainland provide American travelers with more options than ever to enjoy vacations in Martinique that best suit their schedules.”
