Southwest has a new Caribbean destination.

Southwest Airlines has made its first-ever flight to Belize.

The carrier’s 737 from Houston touched down in Belize City on Thursday afternoon.

The daily flights will operate out of Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport.

“As the North American travelers continue to dominate our market, this partnership comes at an opportune time,” said Belize Tourism Minister Manuel Heredia. “Lower airfares, higher interconnectivity, and a relentless appeal for customer service excellence is what we welcome today to our shores. I am convinced that Southwest Airlines will certainly attract more travelers to our beautiful country.”

Southwest has big plans for Hobby as a hub for Caribbean flights, having launched a $156 million project to build a new concourse at the airport.
