The United Nations Security Council has voted to extend the mandate of the world body’s peacekeeping force in Haiti.

The Security Council renewed the mandate for one year until Oct. 16, 2016 at force levels recommended by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Those troop numbers stand at 2,370 troops and 2,061 police.

The Security Council said it would review by next year the force’s overall capacity so “ensure security, stability and security conditions on the ground, in order to consider the possible withdrawal of the Mission and transition to a future UN presence in the country.”

It also asked Ban to conduct an assessment mission to Haiti, “preferably by 90 days after the inauguration of the new President, and ideally after the formation of a new Government.”
