A major Caribbean event

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Aruba is getting set for the  Aruba International Film Festival, which begins Oct. 7.

The event, which is now in its fifth year, is sponsored by the Aruba Tourism Authority.

In recent years, it has grown to become one of the film community’s top spots on the Caribbean and South American film festival circuit.

New for this year is the International Film Market Aruba, which will offer participants the “the opportunity to pitch and sell their films” to visiting buyers, according to a statement.

The festival will include a lineup from narrative, documentary and short films from around the world, along with panel discussions and master classes.

The festival opens with The Driftless Area, a film by director Zachary Sluser that is making its international premiere.

It will close with Viaje, a film by Paz Fabrega that is making its local debut.

The festival runs through Oct. 11.
