A major new all-inclusive in Ocho Rios

By Guy Britton

MONTEGO BAY — One of the most anticipated renovations and rebuilds in the Caribbean was finally unveiled earlier this summer in Jamaica.

Located in the heart of Ocho Rios, it’s a property that has always occupied a special place in the hearts of Jamaicans and a time honored place in Jamaica tourism history.

Now after a multimilliion-dollar transformation of the former Sunset Jamaica Grande by Palace Resorts, the renovations and new rooms at this property are nothing short of spectacular.

Caribbean Journal recently took an in-depth look at the resort this week, which was operating with 350 rooms in a soft-opening phase.

When the resort is completed, there will be a total of 705 rooms.

Management told CJ that would be late October or early November.

The restaurants and entertainment facilities are being brought on line in phases to match occupancy, with some construction ongoing in limited areas.

So what’s it like? It’s an all-inclusive lifestyle resort — with food and entertainment so self sustaining you won’t want to leave the grounds.

In addition to the all-inclusive food court, there are five restaurants, six bars, four pools, and a simulated wave surfing pool called a FlowRider.

And most importantly in the age of connected travel, there was spectacularly good Wi-Fi across the property.

This resort is part entertainment center, part water theme park, part beach club and 100% family friendly.  That means everything from a sophisticated martini bar, a sexy night club called Club Noir, the Wired teens lounge, the Playroom kids club and enough amenities to amuse even the hardest to please family vacationers.

A nice feature at this resort comes in the form of a hefty resort credit of $1,500 currently being offered when you stay 5 nights or more.

The resort credits can be used on spa and beauty salon treatments, chef dinners, wedding packages, and off-site excursions and tours.

This property is the company’s first resort outside of Mexico and its eighth property on the Caribbean Sea.

The verdict? Moon Palace Jamaica Grande is a great new addition both for Jamaica and Palace Resorts.
