Thompson Playa Del Carmen Names General Manager

New hire at soon-to-open Riviera Maya hotel

Thompson Playa Del Carmen, which will open in Riviera Maya this fall, has named Julian Smaldoni as its General Manager.

In his capacity as general manager, Smaldoni will oversee day-to-day operations at the property, including rooms division, sales and marketing, revenue management, food and beverage, finance, and entertainment.

Smaldoni had most recently served as Managing Director of Faena Hotel and Universe in Buenos Aires.

He has also served as GM for several Mexico properties, including Capella Bahia Maroma and Ixtapa Resort & Spa, Tides Riviera Maya, and Quinta Real Huatulco, among others.

The hotel also announced the appointment of Alex Kagan as its Director of Sales and Marketing.

Prior to joining Thompson Playa del Carmen, Kagan served as the consulting Executive Director of Sales at SLS Hotel Las Vegas.
