The approach to Puerto Rico’s El Yunque rainforest is about to change.

Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla has announced the launch of a new project to improve and “transform” the principal entry point to the island’s El Yunque rainforest.

The $15 million project is expected to create 40 construction jobs and 20 permanent jobs.

“The fiscal challenges that we all know will never be an obstacle to development,” Garcia Padilla said. “They reinforce our will to continue to build a better future for the benefit of our citizens.”

The multi-phase project will include transforming the entire road infrastructure in the area, along with resurfacing streets in the local community, improving green areas, signage and electrics.

The project launches after a series of studies and proposals by the Forest Service and the National Park Service.
