Montego Bay’s Elegant Corridor has unveiled a major new lighting project.

Jamaica’s Tourism Enhancement Fund has financed the installation of 797 new state-of-the-art LED lights.

The lights cover a 27-kilometre stretch of Jamaica’s tourism hub.

“We know that if we are able to change the existing high-pressure sodium lights in Jamaica to L.E.D. lights, we will be able to save expenditure on 50,000 barrels of oil per year,” said Local Government and Community Development Minister Noel Arscott. “Therefore, this demonstration of the use of modern technology is an example which we really want to replicate island-wide.”

The project cost roughly $2.3 million USD, financed by the Tourism Enhancement Fund.
