High-level tourism officials and representatives from key regional and international organizations will gather in Port-of-Spain on July 22 and 23 for the 26th Meeting of the Special Committee on Sustainable Tourism.
The Directorate of Sustainable Tourism of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) will host the annual meeting, which provides a platform to address issues relevant to sustainable tourism development in the region.
This year’s meeting seeks to explore strategies for the promotion, growth and continued sustainability of the regional tourism industry; foster multi-lateral dialogue aimed at enhancing international cooperation; and to further initiatives such as the implementation of the Sustainable Tourism Work program, according to the ACS.
One of the primary topics for discussion will be the results of the Regional Cooperation Mechanism of the Sustainable Tourism Zone of the Greater Caribbean Project.
Another key initiative for discussion is the Training for Careers in Sustainable Tourism project, which seeks to identify the needs of technical and vocational education and training in the tourism sector.
The Guatemala Tourism Institute will preside over the meeting, which the ACS expects will feature a high level of effective participation from all of its member companies.
