Sandals Resorts International is expanding in Antigua.

The company has agreed to purchase the Halcyon Cove Hotel from the Antiguan government, Sandals representatives confirmed to Caribbean Journal.

The site, which will likely be torn down, will become a new 250-room Sandals-branded resort on Dickenson Bay.

Sandals is already planning a Beaches-branded resort at Long Bay in Antigua, a plan first announced in 2013.

That resort is involving a major redevelopment of the site of the existing Grand Pineapple Resort.

The company has been on a major expansion push in the Caribbean in recent months, with new debuts in both Grenada and, more recently, Barbados.

While Rex Resorts currently has a lease on the property, that lease will likely be terminated soon by agreement.
