Canadian air carrier WestJet is expanding its service to the Dominican Republic.

The company announced that it would be increasing frequency on its flights between Toronto and Puerto Plata from twice-weekly to four times weekly.

The new schedule took effect at the end of last week.

“[This] announcement represents a disciplined approach in balancing the needs of the travelling public with responsible growth,” said Chris Avery, WestJet Vice-President, Network Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development. “Increased frequency on the routes announced today is in direct response to demand and provides us with an opportunity to further optimize our fleet. As always, we operate with an eye to ensuring value-based options and strong network capability for business and leisure travellers alike.”

WestJet also announced expanded service between Toronto and Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta, with an additional weekly flight.
