Puerto Rico’s Big Jump in Cruise Ship Arrivals

Puerto Rico’s cruise ship numbers are surging.

The island reported 526,428 cruise arrivals in the first quarter of 2015, which represented a 26.2 percent increase over the first three months of 2014.

That’s compared to 417.011 cruise passenger arrivals in the first quarter of 2014.

The increase is due in large part to the island’s project to expand its cruise ship pier in Old San Juan to allow for so-called mega ships.

Indeed, Royal Caribbean’s new Quantum of the Seas mega ship arrived in San Juan late last year and has been making regular calls to the Port of San Juan.
