Avianca’s new Boeing 787 Dreamliner has completed its first flight to Madrid, Spain.

The carrier, which took delivery of the new plane last year, will initially be operating some of the flights Bogota and Madrid and between Cali-Madrid and Medellin-Madrid, although the 787 will progressively be replacing Avianca’s Airbaus A330 on all routes for the company to Europe.

The 787 includes seating for 250 passengers: 28 in executive class and 222 in economy class.

“The addition of the first Boeing 787-8 to Avianca’s fleet is a milestone for commercial aviation and for our airline, which strives to bring the most advanced aviation technology to our passengers,” Avianca President and CEO Fabio Villegas Ramirez said in a recent statement. “With this aircraft, we continue to fulfill the dream this company has had from the beginning: To make better and better connections between Latin America and the world, while giving our customers more enjoyable flights aboard airplanes designed to provide the greatest comfort along with maximum operational performance.”

Avianca currently operates two daily flights between Bogota and Madrid.
