The British Virgin Islands has set the date for its upcoming general election.

Acting Governor V Inez Archibald announced this week that the British Overseas Territory would hold its vote on June 8.

The move comes after the territory’s House of Assembly was dissolved on May 1.

The election will pit Premier Orlando Smith’s National Democratic Party against an opposition led by the Virgin Islands Party and Julian Fraser.

Smith has served as Premier since the NDP’s victory in the 2011 general election. He is the territory’s second-ever Premier.
