MIAMI — It’s one of the Caribbean’s great art forms: salsa, and thanks to the efforts of one orchestra it’s finding a home with another of the hemisphere’s major genres: jazz.

Next week, the University of Miami’s Frost Salsa Orchestra will hold its annual concert fusing jazz and salsa traditions.

This year, the group will be featuring the music of Puerto Rican legend Eddie Palmieri.

The concert, which is being held April 23 at the UM Gusman Concert Hall in Coral Gables, will include Miami-based singer Luis Serrano, vocalist Pete Rodriguez and trumpeter Brian Lynch (the latter won a Grammy in 2007).

The orchestra is led by music director Alberto De La Reguera.
