Where’s the epicentre of the Caribbean-Mexico hotel boom?
Right now, it’s the Yucatan Peninsula, according to the latest report from hotel analytics firm STR.
The company’s Construction Pipeline Report for February found a total of 2,132 rooms under construction in the Yucatan, the largest of any region in the wider Caribbean Basin.
There are currently 163 hotels and 28,927 rooms “under contract” in the region, a 6.9 percent increase over February 2014, although the region saw an 11.4-percent decrease in rooms under construction in the same period.
While it’s not part of the traditional Caribbean Basin region, Central Mexico has a total of 2,026 rooms under construction right now.
