There’s a new way to get to Grand Bahama: via Bahama Mama.

That’s the name of the brand-new ferry operated by Balearia, which made its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama last week.

The 1,000-passenger ferry will operate almost every day out of Port Everglades, arriving in Freeport Harbour.

The ship includes a restaurant, a swimming pool, private suites, bars and cafes, duty-free shopping and even a 200-container cargo capacity.

The ferry has the capacity to bring more than 300,000 tourists to Grand Bahama each year.

The ship has also partnered with the island’s Grand Lucayan resort, offering combination transportation and accommodation packages.

“Partnering with Baleária Ferry Express will provide a platform for convenient access to Grand Lucayan,” said Benjamin Davis, general manager of Grand Lucayan, in a statement. “Reinforcing Grand Lucayan’s commitment to providing an authentic Bahamian experience ideal for budget conscious travelers, we look forward to capturing the attention of new and past guests alike via this new and exciting vessel.”

The trip time takes about three hours in each direction.
