The Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao received 450,953 tourists in 2014, according to new data from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

That was a 2.5 percent increase over the previous year, buoyed by a summer season that saw a 5.8 percent improvement over the summer of 2013.

The island’s growth was driven by a dramatic improvement in Canadian tourism, with 12,406 tourists and a 29.7 percent increase over the previous year.

That helped mitigate a 13.9 percent drop in tourist arrivals from the United States.

The island’s largest source market was travelers outside of the US, Canada and Europe; 200,159 such visitors came to Curacao in 2014, the vast majority from South America.
