What’s the outlook for the island of Tobago in 2015?

According to Chief Secretary Orville London, this year will involve some “hard decisions.”

“We know that some hard decisions would have to be made,” he said, pointing to potential issues for Trinidad and Tobago’s economy given the drop in oil prices. “”We know we have a responsibility to manage the affairs of Tobago in a manner that will bring minimal pain.”

London said his government was awaiting direction from the government of Trinidad and Tobago on what kind of adjustments might be necessary in 2015.

“What we’re asking for is an understanding and a recognition that times have changed, and as times change adjustments would have to be made,” London said.

The Chief Secretary said Tobago’s resources would be “utilized in the best possible manner to continue development and allow the future of Tobago to continue on a positive path.”

Next week, the Tobago House of Assembly is having a two-day retreat to discuss what changes may need to be made going forward.
