The northern coast of the Dominican Republic was shaken by an earthquake on Friday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake struck at around 3:11 PM at a depth of around 25 kilometres.
Its epicentre was in the city of Guananico about 167 kilometres northwest of the capital, Santo Domingo.
The quake registered a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale, according to the USGS.
There were not yet reports of any damage or injuries.
The Dominican Republic is located in a seismically active region of the Caribbean.
