Cuba has eclipsed three million tourists in 2014, according to new data from the government.

That represented a growth of around 6 percent over the previous year, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The number was topped following a flight by Canada’s Sunwing to the Jardines del Rey airport on Cayo Coco.

Canada remains by far the largest single source market for Cuban tourism, according to a recent Caribbean Journal report.

It’s likely the three million figure will increase next year as US visitors begin trickling into the island.

Last year, the island received around 2.85 million visitors, including around 90,000 from the United States.
