Haiti will be receiving a $24 million donation from the Inter-American Development Bank, following approval this week.

The funding will target the expansion of access to education; it is the fourth of five contributions in support of the IDB’s 2010-2015 operational plan in the region.

The donation will go toward replacing five public schools, benefiting as many as 4,000 children from preschool to the ninth grade, according to the IDB.

A portion of the funding will also go toward training and accrediting primary school teachers and preschool teachers.

In addition, the funding will finance the development of a new effort to create an Early Childhood Development Program in 150 preschool centers in Haiti, according to the bank.
