Antigua and Barbuda is eyeing the development of 3,000 new hotel rooms in the next five years, according to Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
The twin-island state has been on a major development push since Browne’s government entered office, with a host of new projects on stream, most recently the new Robert De Niro-backed hotel in Barbuda.
“We are working assiduously to achieve this goal,” Browne said in a statement this week.
The latest project is the former Hodges Bay Club in Antigua, which is undergoing a rebranding.
Under new owners Jeff Wellamyer and John Goard of JSN Holdings, the property is being rebranded the Resort at Hodges Bay, with a transformation project slated for completion in the middle of 2015.
According to a government estimate, the project will generate around 200 jobs in Antigua.
