The Organization of American States will be sending an electoral observation mission to Dominica for the country’s national elections next week.

Dominica will be holding elections on Dec. 8.

The OAS and Dominica signed an agreement stipulating the conditions for that mission this week, with OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza expressing his conviction that “Dominica will have a normal and peaceful electoral process.”

The OAS regularly observes Caribbean elections; the regional body has been present in 54 elections in the Caribbean since 1962; this will be the second time it has done so in Dominica.

“We are very pleased and happy with the presence of the OAS,” said Dominica’s Permanent Representative to the OAS, Hubert Charles.

Dominica will elect 21 members of Parliament including the country’s next Prime Minister.
