Earthquake Shakes Panama, Colombia

An earthquake caused shaking in the border region between Panama and Colombia late Thursday evening, according to data from the United States Geological Survey.

The 5.1-magnitude quake struck at around 11:36 AM local time, at a depth of 51 kilometres.

Its epicentre was about 36 kilometres northwest of Acandi, Colombia and about 225 killometres east of Panama City, Panama, just off the coast in the Caribbean Sea.

Most reports of light shaking were centered near Panama City, with some reports in the far west of the country.

There were not yet any reports of damage or injuries resulting from the quake.
