Marriott has a new hotel on the way in Haiti — its first-ever property in the country slated to open in Port-au-Prince in February.

But does it have more plans in the country?

A team of Marriott executives visited the country last week, according to a statement from Haiti’s Ministry of Tourism.

The trip included a meeting with Haiti Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin, visits to the west, central and north departments of the country and a visit to the historical centre of the city of Jacmel.

The trip came after a recent visit by hotel brand Decameron to the country.

“Interest in tourism investment in Haiti is growing increasingly as our promotion multiplies,” Villedrouin said in a statement. “We believe that Haiti is now taking the path of economic progress.”
