These Three Caribbean Countries are in a Hotel Construction Boom

There are three countries in the Caribbean with more than 500 rooms in construction, according to the latest

According to the latest pipeline report from STR, the Bahamas leads the Caribbean with 2,681 rooms in construction, with the vast majority coming from the Baha Mar resort project.

Next is Cuba, with 1,176 rooms in the “in construction” phase, followed by the Dominican Republic, with 715 rooms in the “in construction” phase.

Overall the Caribbean-Mexico hotel development pipeline has 167 hotels totaling 29,430 rooms, an 18.3 percent increase in rooms under contract compared to the same period in 2013.

Mexico alone has 7,957 hotel rooms in the “in construction” phase, according to STR’s report.
