Azul Hotels by Karisma is planning a $40 million expansion of its property in Playa del Carmen on Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

The expansion of the Azul Fives Hotel will include an “Essence Section” with 64 suites and a plaza with three gourmet restaurants, two bars, a gym and a coffee shop, according to Karisma Hotels and Resorts.

“Azul Fives Hotel has become a favorite destination of visitors and our decision to expand was a direct response to an increasing demand for one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, personalized service and unique experiences,” said Mandy Chomat, vice president of sales and marketing at Premier Worldwide Marketing, Azul Hotels’ representatives worldwide.
The expansion project is slated for completion in January 2015, according to the company.
Karisma owns and manages properties across the region under the El Dorado, Azul and Generations and Allure brands.
