Another Earthquake Near Cuba

Cuba’s year of heightened seismic activity is continuing.

Another earthquake struck near Cuba early Sunday morning, with a 4.4 magnitude quake occurring southeast of the country.

The quake struck at a depth of 13 kilometres with an epicentre about 62 kilometres south of Baracoa and about 88 kilometres east-southeast of Guantanamo, at aboutt 12:25 AM local time.

The quake was about 262 kilometres west-northwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

It was the latest in a string of earthquakes in the Cuba region, beginning with three earthquakes in three months in early 2014, tremblors that also shook the Florida Keys.

The most recent quake was a 4.2-magnitude strike off the country’s southern coast in August.
