The British Virgin Islands is looking to promote its “Category One” ship registry status abroad.
The British Overseas Territory recently sent a team to the Monaco Yacht Show to promote its status, which means it can now register the mega yachts of the world.
The Monaco show is the largest of its kind in Europe, displaying around 115 superyachts and bringing together more than 33,000 people.
“In the years of attending, we have seen the growth of BVI registered yachts participating in the show, increased over time,” said Maritza Mercer, chief operations officer in the BVI International Finance Centre. “BVI registered yachts at this year’s event include Starling, Unlimited 88, Vicem, Dreamliner, Pride, to name a few.”
The BVI delegation included members from the Tourist Board, the shipping registry and the customs office, among others.
