The Caribbean’s largest resort project is expanding — into the ocean. But now how you might think.
The Nassau project has an ongoing initiative in the shores of Cable Beach, aiming to create the optimal conditions for coral and marine life.
The “eco-reef” project has included the installation of more than 300 coral “antlers,” which will eventually be covered by a living reef.
The antlers, which were installed in July, were joined by 48 “reef balls,” which also promote the growth of marine life like coral and sponges by mimicking natural reef conditions.
According to the resort’s environmental team, a number of species already call its nearby shores home, including blue tangs, bar jacks, barracuda, angelfish, pinfish and grouper, among others.
“We are creating smarter, greener luxury at Baha Mar through initiatives that are not only transforming and preserving the natural environment, but transforming The Bahamas,” said Baha Mar Chief Operating Officer Paul Pusateri. “The steps we take today to conserve and protect the natural beauty of The Bahamas will pay off for generations to come.”
