BIMINI — There’s a new gateway to the Bahamian island of Bimini.

Resorts World Bimini’s Superfast cruise ship service made its first official visit to its newly-constructed cruise pier on the island on a sailing from Port Everglades, Florida.

A packed house of dignitaries and invited guests looked on as Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie and Genting Group Chairman KT Lim cut the ribbon and announced Bimini’s new cruise ship port open for business.

The pier includes customs and immigration services.

It replaces the former tender boat system that had previously met cruise ships docked offshore of Bimini’s shallow shores and brought visitors to the island.

Service from Miami first launched last year, with regular service from Port Everglades set to begin in October.

Resorts World Bimini continues to forge ahead with construction of its luxury 307-room hotel and has recently acquired an additional 16.2 acre parcel adjacent to the resort.
