4.7-Magnitude Earthquake Causes Shaking in Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico

The Dominican Republic was lightly shaken by a 4.7-magnitude earthquake on Thursday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake’s epicentre was around 18 kilometres east-northeast of Miches in the Dominican Republic, about 130 kilometres east-northeast of the capital, Santo Domingo.

It struck at around 10:12 PM local time, causing weak to light shaking across the country, from Santiago to Santo Domingo to Higuey.

The strongest reports of shaking were in Otra Banda in the Dominican Republic, although the quake was felt as far away as Puerto Rico, including in the cities of Aguada, Cabo Rojo, Guaynabo, Lares and Mayaguez.

There were no reports of damage or injuries due to the quake.
