Cayman Islands Shaken By Earthquake

The Cayman Islands was lightly shaken by a 5.1-magnitude earthquake off the British Overseas Territory’s southern coast on Wednesday morning.

The quake, which struck at a depth of 10 kilometres, occurred at around 5:01 AM local time.

The quake’s epicentre was about 35 kilometres south of George Town and about 45 kilometres south of West Bay in the Cayman Islands.

It was about 344 kilometres south-southwest of Trinidad, Cuba.

There were reports of shaking across the territory, from Bodden Town to George Town to West Bay.

There have been several quakes in the area of the Cayman Islands in recent months of similar magnitudes.
