The Caribbean’s newest boutique hotel is readying for its soft opening this month in the town of Esperanza on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques, and it’s not quite like any other hotel in the region.

El Blok, Puerto Rico’s newest offering, is a something of an architectural marvel, a funky, eclectic and beautiful structure designed by San Juan-based architectural firm Fuster + Architects.

The property is also home to a restaurant by leading Chef Jose Enrique (he of the eponymous San Juan eatery), who put a “minimal take on a beach menu,” according to the property.

Each room has an outdoor terrace, memory foam pillows, Aesop bath and body amenities, flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, among other amenities.

It’s also LEED Gold certified.

The property began accepting bookings on Aug. 1.
