Marriott is planning to open its first-ever Guyana property in December 2014, according to the company’s Web site.

The hotel, which will be located in Georgetown, will have a business focus.

The nine-floor, 192-room property will also have seven meeting rooms.

The property had initially been slated for a summer 2014 opening, according to government estimates at the beginning of this year.

The property, which is located in the Kingston neighbourhood, launched in 2011.

China’s Shanghai Construction Group is the lead contractor on the project, which is estimated to cost around $52 million.
